We moved to Osoyoos, B.C., where VRBO’s are quite common and thought we should give it a try. So, after a laborious project of renovating our basement, we sought out an agent to look after the bookings and all details required to operate a successful VRBO. We didn’t want to over burden ourselves with all the nitty gritty details, such as booking, screening guests, janitorial services and the other details to operate a successful VRBO.
We asked some other VRBO owners in the area as to who looked after their property, a number of them managed the property themselves and highlighted some of the problems and pitfalls associated with self managing as well as owners who hired an agent to look after all the details. As we were new to the process, we decided that to run a successful VRBO we would hire an agent.
A neighbour referred us to Martine of Northern Rental. In discussion with Martine, we were impressed with her knowledge on the vacation home rental business. We had a number of discussions with Martine during the renovations to make sure we were completing the renovation that would meet the needs of discriminating guests.
Once we opened the doors, Martine looked after every detail and to our surprise our first season’s occupancy was well beyond our expectations even though we were operating in the middle of a pandemic. Martine kept us informed throughout the season re: bookings, guest’s requirements , janitorial service, etc. At the end of each month Martine provided a detailed financial spreadsheet illustrating revenues and expenses, amounts remitted to the appropriate government agencies and deposited our net revenue into our bank account. Martine accomplished what we were looking for, we are now VRBO operators with no stress.

We are new to the short term rental market so having Martine's support in not only addressing the needs of the short term rental clients, but helping with maintenance issues was imperative. During the summer we had a leak in our laundry room ceiling which is a concern as we live in Port Coquitlam.
